What Would a Non-Sexist City Be Like Now?

This work was inspired by a conversation with one of my students who had been assigned Dolores Hayden’s text “What Would a Non-Sexist City Be Like?” The student was critical of what she saw as the sacrifices required to live communally. I created this activity to spark conversation about what folks envision a non-sexist city would be like for them and their community.

The photos shown here are products of a series of workshops hosted at the Project for Empty Space in Newark, NJ, where participants created their own non-sexist city using recycled materials.
